BMF Launches the Project “Site Preparation, Backfilling with Sterile Soil and Conservation of the Roman Forum Ruins”, Supported by the “Expandere Conscientiae Lumen” Grant

Work will soon begin on the project “Site Preparation, Backfilling with Sterile Soil and Conservation of the Roman Forum Ruins.” Today, these archaeological remains are located within an area of dense vegetation that poses a risk to their preservation and long-term stability.
This project is being implemented by the Butrint Management Foundation with the support of the “Expandere Conscientiae Lumen” Grant, awarded by Ancient Rome Live and The Musk Foundation. Its primary objective is to halt the deterioration of this important archaeological heritage caused by natural factors and the passage of time.
Through this intervention, open excavation areas will be carefully backfilled with sterile soil, while the ancient structures will be stabilized and conserved. Most importantly, upon completion of the project, the Roman Forum will be included in the visitor route for the first time, allowing the public to experience another significant part of the ancient city.
We remain committed to safeguarding the heart of Butrint’s ancient heritage and to providing visitors with an enriching and memorable experience.
